WATER DISTRIBUTION LABORER I

City of Lewisburg, West Virginia

INTRODUCTION

The position of Water Distribution Laborer I is located in the Public Works Department of the City of Lewisburg, West Virginia. This employee is responsible for carrying out written and oral assigned tasks within the city s water distribution section primarily responsible for the installation and repairs of water lines. This employee is under the direct supervision of the Water Distribution Foreman. This is a non-exempt position.

MAJOR DUTIES

• Work in a small crew doing water transmission and distribution system maintenance and installation activities and/or projects.
• Carrying out oral and written work details and orders.
• Ensures the proper care and maintenance of related work equipment.
• Clean and maintain buildings and grounds.
• CDL license may be required.
• Maintain all certifications required to perform duties.
• Assist street crew as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Ability to communicate with citizens in a courteous manner.
• Knowledge of valves, fittings, pipes and system operations.
• Knowledge of water distribution system.
• Knowledge of equipment to include backhoe, trucks, tractor, boring machine, valve exerciser and other equipment and tools.

SUPERVISORY CONTROL

This employee works under general supervision exercising initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned tasks.

COMPLEXITY

This position requires the basic understanding of water line construction and repair and service line installation. Judgment is required to plan and coordinate work and to interpret field conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., have dexterity and coordination to include hand/eye coordination. This position requires moderate to strenuous physical exertion, walking on wet uneven slope, loose soil, climbing in and out of ditches, bending, stooping, stretching and reaching.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.70 per hour
